Most Consumers open to buying jewelry for anniversaries

AUGUST 08, 2006 - Paso Robles, Calif. -- About two- thirds (66 percent) of jewelry consumers says they would consider buying fine jewelry or a watch as an anniversary gift in the future, according to a new study by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council.

But the study finds that only 37 percent of jewelry consumers have purchased fine jewelry or a watch as an anniversary gift in the past.While spouses represent the most popular recipient of anniversary gift jewelry (78 percent), many of those surveyed also say they would buy or an anniversary jewelry gift for another family member of friend.

Of those survey, 28 percent would consider buying fine jewelry or watches as an anniversary gift for a child, and 34 percent say they would buy fine jewelry or watches as an anniversary gift for a parent.Another 36 percent say they would consider buying fine jewelry or watches as an anniversary gift for themselves. Dress watches and diamond jewelry represented the most popular jewelry categories for anniversary gifts.
